The Artesia Public Schools board met Monday to adopt a plan of action for their 2011-12 Board of Education Goals.

Superintendent Mike Phipps outlined six goals for the upcoming year, which board members voted unanimously to adopt.

By adopting the goals, the board agreed that it will continue to evaluate and modify the APS Educational Plan for Student Success and continue to update curriculum-mapping documents for all content areas of the APS website. They will also work to enhance the English, math and science curriculum within APS and implement the district’s Facilities Master Plan. The board also intends to promote a drug, gang and bully-free campus for all schools and promote student activities within APS.

Each goal in the document is paired with an action plan for the year. For example, in the goal for enhancing English, math and science curriculums, the board members endeavor to hire additional math and English instructors who qualify to teach honors or Advanced Placement courses. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
