ALAMOGORDO -- The U.S. Forest Service has announced Thursday,...

A series of Legislative Capital Outlay Workshops have been scheduled by the Southeastern New Mexico Economic Development District/Council of Governments (SNMEDD).

The workshops will be held throughout the five-county region covered by the Development District and will take place in Alamogordo, Carlsbad, Roswell, Hobbs and Ruidoso.

Local governments, community-based nonprofit organizations, and other eligible public entities seeking assistance in acquiring funding assistance for capital construction or equipment projects from the State of New Mexico are encouraged to attend the workshop in their county.

“It is critical that those seeking Capital Outlay funding assistance attend one of the workshops,” said Dora Batista, executive director of the SNMEDD.

The workshops will provide those seeking funding the opportunity to learn about Capital Outlay eligibility requirements and how to complete a request for funding assistance from local legislators. The proposed projects must have a project of life of at least 10 years and cost no less than $25,000. The funding is for use in capital building, equipment and emergency uses, and no funds may be used for operational or program expenses.

Capital Outlay projects that are approved by the legislature and governor will be funded by state-issued Severance Tax Bonds or General Fund Bonds.

The workshops will be held:

• Sept. 6: 9 a.m. – noon, Carlsbad City Hall
• Sept. 7: 9 a.m. – noon, Chaves County Commission Chambers, Roswell
• Sept. 12: 9:30 a.m. – noon, Hobbs Commission Chambers
• Sept. 13: 1-3 p.m., Otero County Commission Chambers, Alamogordo
• Sept. 14: 9 a.m. – noon, Ruidoso City Hall

It is very important that projects for which funding is being requested are listed on the local government’s or public entity’s Infrastructure Capital Improvements Plan (ICIP).

For application forms to request Capital Outlay funding, call 624-6131 or email Pansy Moffitt at pmsnmedd@plateautel.net.
