The Runnin’ ‘Dogs are moving on the Class 4A state quarterfinal round following a decisive 61-35 win over Taos Saturday at Bulldog Pit.
The sixth-ranked Artesia boys wasted no time establishing control of the contest, taking a statement-making 17-1 lead out of the first quarter and heading in at the half up 31-10. The No. 11 Tigers got more out of their shooting guards in the second half, staying within five points of Artesia in the final 16 minutes. But the damage had been done, and the Bulldogs moved on by a comfortable 26-point margin.
The ‘Dogs will now prepare to take on third-ranked Hope Christian at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at The Pit. The Huskies bested No. 14 Espanola Valley 65-35 Saturday.
