The Class 4A third-ranked Lady Bulldog basketball team punched its ticket to The Pit Friday night, bowling over the No. 14 Lady Colts of Silver City by a final of 61-33.
The Artesia girls came out gangbusters in the first-round contest at Bulldog Pit, taking a 22-6 lead out of the first quarter. The Lady ‘Dogs — who drained a whopping 10 three-pointers Friday, five of those coming courtesy of Kailee Padilla — took a 25-point lead in at the half and cruised from there.
The Artesia girls will now prepare to take on No. 11 Deming in the state quarterfinal round at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Albuquerque. The Lady Wildcats scored a big upset win over sixth-ranked Albuquerque Academy Friday, 56-35.
