Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at Terpening & Son Mortuary for Vera L. Haynes of Artesia.

Haynes, 84, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, in the ICU at Artesia General Hospital. She was comforted by her family at the time of her passing.

Pastor Galen Isaacs will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Haynes, Patrick Haynes, John Aguilar, James Aguilar, Gary Hatfield, Curtis Hellums and Nathan Haynes.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Wednesday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Vera was born Sept. 25, 1931, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Viola Michael. She was the youngest child of five.

On Oct. 8, 1949, she married Howard A. Haynes Sr. in Chicago, and the couple shared 45 years of marriage.

Vera was a homemaker who loved God passionately. She spoke of her faith with family and friends, and her one wish was to see all of her loved ones in heaven one day, that they would all accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Her hobbies included listening to Christian music, her morning prayer list and daily bread, doing puzzles, playing games, and visiting with her family.

Survivors include her children, Michael Haynes and wife Linda of Burleson, Texas, and Howard A. Haynes Jr. and wife Uthana, Christi Haynes, Timothy Haynes and wife Karen, and Joy Haynes, all of Artesia; grandchildren Curtis Hellums and wife Angie, Nathan Haynes, Michael Haynes and wife Alesha, Patrick Haynes and wife Maegan, John Aguilar and wife Yolanda, Dyann Ray, James Aguilar and wife Stacy, David Aguilar, Jason Aguilar, Michael Hatfield and wife Joyce, Gary Hatfield and wife Jessica Kapri, Jessica Hatfield, Richard Coombs, Kimberly Haynes, J.C. Abner and Kayla Abner; and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Viola Michael; two sisters, Irene Pierce and Ruth Richmond; husband Howard A. Haynes Sr.; two brothers, George A. Michael Sr. and Robert Eugene Michael; and a great-grandson, Jeremy Hatfield.
