Winners of Zia Intermediate School’s Red Ribbon Week poster contest were announced Thursday morning at the school. Students spent the last few months creating posters with “Say No to Drugs and Alcohol” themes. “The ideas that transpired in these posters were so great,” Nancy Husselman of the Artesia Drug & Crime Coalition said. “It was difficult to choose only three winners.” Due to the exemplary work, six students were selected this year. Pictured are, from left, Allison Miles, first place; Roberto Silvas, second place; Stephanie Cuenca, third place; Jayda Catano, honorable mention; Jinella Ortega, runner-up; Kimry Luna, runner-up; and Susan Irby, the substitute art teacher who taught the students when the posters were made.
