Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug.

15, at First Baptist Church with graveside services following at 4 p.m. at the Carlsbad Cemetery, 1506 Boyd Drive, for Richard L. Martinez of Artesia.

Martinez, 58, lost his battle with cancer Thursday, Aug. 6, 2015.

He was born April 28, 1957, in Carlsbad to Dalila (Sosa) Henderson.

For more than 30 years, he served the communities of Eddy County as a law enforcement officer until his retirement in March 2012. Immediately following his retirement from the Artesia Police Department, he began his term as municipal judge, where he continued to serve the citizens of Artesia until his passing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ronda Martinez; mother Dalila Henderson; daughters Roxy Sanchez and husband Manuel and Suzy Jewell and husband Chase; son Casey Martinez; grandchildren Audrey Jewell and Trey Sanchez; goddaughter Mandy Peel, husband Matt, and their children Kinsley and Brayden; siblings Randy Martinez, Rose Seybold and Cecil Henderson and wife Traci; and a large number of extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Henderson, and brothers Russell Henderson and Willie Martinez.
