After being the interim boss of the Artesia Police Department since July. Pete Quinones has the job on a permanent basis, said District One City Councilor Raul Rodriguez.
He replaces former chief Kirk Roberts who announced his retirement three months ago.
Rodriguez said councilors met in a closed door session Tuesday afternoon.
He said Artesia Mayor Jeff Youtsey recommended the hiring of Quinones after interviewing he and another applicant.
“We have a good staff over there. We were ready to move forward,” Rodriguez said in a telephone interview Tuesday evening.
