The Rev. James Lawson Jr., an apostle of nonviolent protest who schooled activists to withstand brutal reactions from white authorities as the Civil Rights Movement gained traction, has died, his family said Monday. He was 95. His family said Lawson died on Sunday after a short illness in Los Angeles, where he spent decades working as a pastor, labor movement organizer and university professor.
The Artesia Public Library has officially kicked off its Summer Reading Program. The library staff said the planned programs invite children, teens and adults to join the fun with their theme, “Adventure Begins At Your Library.” “Summer Reading Programs are essential for the youth of the community,” said Library Supervisor Omar Acosta.

On June 4, a caller with a 615 area code -- associated with the Nashville, Tenn., area -- placed a call to the family member of an Eddy County Detention Center (ECDC) detainee one day after the detainee had been booked into the jail.
