Unofficial results from Tuesday’s Primary Election

ARTESIA -- The State of New Mexico and Eddy County have released the unofficial results of Tuesday’s Primary Election. Locally, a square-off between two Republican candidates for county sheriff was decided, and county residents helped settle a hotly contested race in State Senate District 42.

Baldwin’s journey ran through Artesia

ARTESIA -- Chuck Baldwin’s long and storied journey had a flight path through Artesia. Baldwin moved to the community with his family as a child, graduating from Artesia High School.

26th Street Reconstruction Project to begin this summer

By ELIZABETH WEBB For the Daily Press Artesia residents will need to prepare for yet another bout of major road construction on one of Artesia’s most active streets. Smith Engineering will begin a four-phase project towards the end of the summer — potentially five phases.

Blue 2 Fire listed at 77% containment

RUIDOSO -- The U.S. Forest Service has reported that the Blue 2 Fire burning north of Ruidoso was listed at 77% containment as of Wednesday.

Superkids donate to Thirst Responders drive

Artesia Police Department officers work to load cases of water following the Cpl. D. Robert Harvey Thirst Responders Drive, held at Hermosa Elementary School. In total, the Superkids collected more than 600 cases of water for local first responders. 'We appreciate all the Superkids, local sponsors, APS staff and the Harvey Family for this event,' the APD said in a Facebook post. 'We also appreciate serving such a generous city and local community that supports their first responders!' Below, first responders speak to the students during the presentation assembly.

USFS provides update on Blue 2 Fire burning near Ruidoso

RUIDOSO -- The U.S. Forest Service reported Saturday afternoon that the Blue 2 Fire burning near Ruidoso was at 14% containment.

Items to be accepted for recycling include all office-related equipment, fax machines, copiers, typewriters, CPUs, and consumer electronics including DVD and VCR players and video game consoles, radios, telephones and cell phones, server and telecom equipment, cameras and stereo equipment. There will be a $5 charge for large CRT monitors. Televisions and home appliances will not be accepted.
