Artesia boys' soccer team defeats Lovington in the nick of time

Artesia Bulldogs' soccer forward, Anton Wodarz, scored the Bulldogs' only goal with 2:58 to play against a physical Lovington Wildcats to win 1-0 at Robert Chase Field.
The Artesia boys soccer team scored with 2 minutes and 58 second left to play in the game before defeating Lovington 1-0, to improve to 15-2 on the season.
The Artesia Daily Press has nominated three girls for Athlete of the Year Week. The girls are Cross Country runner Jema Molina, Soccer player Alani Escareno and volleyball player Brooklynne Ivans. Voting starts on Oct. 9-16.

Artesia girls' volleyball team defeated the Ruidoso Lady Warriors in straight sets Tuesday night.
In the Oct. 7 coaches’ poll, the Artesia Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 in District 5A with 110 points and 11 first-place votes, followed by District 2-5A rivals Roswell at No. 2 and Lovington at No. 3. There is still a lot of football left in the next three weeks, and each team will face off against the others to determine who will win the district and advance to the playoffs.
