A change of the calendar from July to August means school is starting at districts across New Mexico. Weekend fishing trips to lakes and streams could be considered essential as students start hitting the books.
Anthony Barrera picked up his first fishing pole 30 years ago while growing up in Artesia. He enjoyed fishing along the banks of the Pecos River but he wanted more – he yearned to fish in places he couldn’t get to by walking.
Two individuals whose names are synonymous with high school sports in Alamogordo and across the state were honored recently with inductions into the New Mexico High School Coaches Association (NMHSCA) Hall of Honor.
On June 21, he competed at the USA Grappling (USAG) Team Trials to earn a spot on Team USA Teen Division, which will represent the United States at the World Tournament in Greece in the fall of 2025.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 25-6 overall record and were 9-0 in District 4-A-4. The ’Dogs went on a 14-game winning streak after suffering a 2-0 loss to Carlsbad on the road.
