Remains of missing Carlsbad man found
CARLSBAD — The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) has reported that the remains of a Carlsbad man missing since December 2023 have been found south of Carlsbad.
On Friday, May 17, ECSO deputies and detectives responded to a remote location near the intersection of Black River Village and Bounds roads west of Loving and Malaga in reference to the discovery of a body. Over the course of that weekend, detectives worked in coordination with the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) to search the site and recover the body.
The OMI performed an autopsy and was able to positively identify the deceased individual as 24-year-old William Kammerer, who was reported missing Dec. 4, 2023, after having last been seen Dec. 1, 2023. Kammerer’s pickup truck, wallet and mobile phone were previously recovered.
The ECSO says foul play is suspected in Kammerer’s death, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with potential information is urged to call the ECSO Detective Division at 575-887-7551. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Eddy County by calling 575-887-1888, visiting eddycountycrimestoppers.com, or utilizing the mobile app P3 Tips.
“We have communicated with the family, and we express our sincere sympathy and condolences at the trafic loss of their loved one,” the ECSO said in a statement. “We encourage everyone to follow the Facebook page created by the family, “Bring Will Home,” and share the hashtag #bringwillhome on social media.”
