The Artesia Public Schools is asking for thoughts and prayers after three staff members tested positive for COVID-19. The positive tests have also delayed scheduled laptop pick-ups for students in the district.

The APS sent out a message via its text alert system at around 8 p.m. today, which reads as follows:

Unfortunately, our community is currently experiencing some positive COVID cases. Three of those individuals are our staff members. I ask that you keep these people in your thoughts and prayers for mild symptoms and a speedy recovery.

Those considered close contacts have been notified and proper protocols are being followed.

As a precautionary measure, our buildings will remain closed until 1 p.m. Monday to allow extra time for disinfecting. The laptop pick-up scheduled for Monday morning will be rescheduled. Watch for more information from building principals about the revised schedule.

The safety of our students, families, and staff will continue to be our top priority as we make final preparations to start the school year in the Remote learning mode.

Additional information will be published as it becomes available.
