Artesians who may have noticed an increase in the cost of their regular purchases since the start of the year are being reminded the county’s Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) rate has increased effective Jan. 1.
The change is a result of the one-eighth of 1 percent increase enacted this past summer by the Eddy County Commission. The commission had originally sought to enact the full three-eighths allowed by the state. But after voting to implement one-eighth in June, the commission ultimately voted down a proposal to enact the remaining two-eighths.
The Eddy County rate – which affects all city rates in the county – is now 5.875 percent, up from 5.75 percent. That means an increase to 7.8125 percent from 7.6875 in Artesia.
Carlsbad’s rate rose from 7.4375 to 7.5625, and Loving’s from 6.8125 to 6.9375.
