The Border Patrol Academy held life-saving training last week for local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in Southeast New Mexico.

Tactical Medicine, also known as TAC MED, introduces life-saving techniques and strategies used under the duress of gunfire or similar hostile situations. A cadre of Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (BORSTAR) operators and Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technicians located at the Border Patrol Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center hold the training several times a year and offer it to agencies from all around the area.

The course encompasses life-saving techniques similarly used in military situations, tactical awareness, active shooter, self-aid, survival mindset, medical care under fire, and real-world scenarios.

“With the many dangers law enforcement officers face today, courses like TAC MED are an essential tool for the law enforcement professional,” said SBPA Juan Di Bella. “The Border Patrol Academy continues to pave the way in innovative and effective training and partnerships that enable law enforcement to better serve the community.”
