EDDY COUNTY — A Carlsbad man was killed Sunday in an ATV wreck near Loco Hills.

The New Mexico State Police were dispatched around 5:45 p.m. Sunday to the Hackberry Lake Sand Dunes near Loco Hills in reference to the wreck. Initial investigation revealed a 2015 Polaris ATV, driven by Jesus Anthony Serrano, 43, of Carlsbad, was travelling west in the sand dunes when it went over a hill and rolled.

Serrano was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The NMSP say alcohol does not appear to have been a contributing factor in the wreck. Seatbelts, however, appear to not have been properly utilized.
