The City of Artesia is warning residents that an individual claiming to be from the Water Department has been attempting to scam citizens.

“Someone is identifying themselves as the Artesia Water Department, telling people that they’re going to get a $50 credit on their account if they verify their information,” said Utility Billing Supervisor Jennifer Brown. “This is a scam. Please do not give out your personal information.”

Brown said she is urging people to hang up and call the Water Department at 575-748-8288 if they have any questions.
