The city council approved a variance for a Habitat for Humanity property during Tuesday’s meeting.

Mayor Phillip Burch said during the meeting that while the Planning and Zoning Committee, which recommended the variance request for approval, does not normally like to allow variances to city code, this was a prudent exception.

“(The committee) felt like this wouldn’t unleash a flood (of applicants) as there are very few lots that are this small,” he said.

The approval of a variance for the property, which is located at 316 W. Runyan Ave., means that Habitat will be able to build the home even though it does not meet the city’s requirements for “setback,” which normally requires a property owner place the building 20 feet from the street. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
