State legislators will debate Senate Joint Resolution 10 this month, which would authorize a special election for the recreational use of marijuana in New Mexico. The resolution, introduced by State Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino (D-Albuquerque) last month would follow similar legislation passed by Colorado and Washington State.

Under the resolution, possession and personal use of marijuana would be lawful by persons 21 and older. The state legislature would provide for the production, processing, transportation, taxation and sale of marijuana, and would determine acceptable quantities and places of use to protect public health and safety. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
