One of the more interesting factoids from Friday’s Class 4A State Semifinal game between Artesia and Goddard at Wool Bowl in Roswell was also one of the most unfathomable to football fans across the state.
The top-ranked Rockets scored their final touchdown of the game with 2:10 to go in the second quarter, moving in front of the Bulldogs by 18 points, 21-3 … and through the nearly 30 minutes of football that remained, the ‘Dogs could not catch up.
The pundits and sportswriters that rarely speak of Artesia’s offense without throwing in at least a few adjectives – “juggernaut,” “potent” and “high-powered” being the most popular – were shocked to say the least, as was the sizable crowd of Big Orange fans in attendance in chilly Roswell.
But on a night when miscues and mishaps added up, the ‘Dogs’ offense could not find the throttle, and the result was a season-ending 21-10 loss. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
