The driver of a vehicle involved in a rollover Jan. 15 on SR 18 in Lea County that left his passenger dead at the scene has also died.

The New Mexico State Police responded around 7 p.m. Jan. 15 to the wreck near mile marker 20 on SR 18, which occurred when the southbound vehicle failed to navigate a curve, crossed the median into the northbound lanes, and rolled.

Both the driver, Lynn Wilbur Stehley, 44, of Jal, and the passenger, Jesse David-Allan Ables, 32, of Kermit, Texas, were unrestrained and ejected from the vehicle.

Ables was pronounced dead at the scene. Stehley was transported by EMS to Odessa, Texas, but succumbed to his injuries around 11 a.m. Jan. 21.
