A memorial service will be held at a later date for Evelyn Lorraine Ohlinger.

Ohlinger, 94, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, in Roswell. She will be cremated, according to her wishes, and laid to rest in Alamogordo.

Evelyn was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Raton to Leo and Blanche Patrick Thomure.

She was a housewife and secretary for her husband’s business. She was a native New Mexico resident who loved the desert and mountain beauty. She was also a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Alamogordo and was active in PEO and other community activities.

Evelyn loved her family and will be remembered for her humor, zest for life, and wisdom.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Gary Dwight Ohlinger, of Shelton, Wash.; daughters Donnine Kay Ballance and husband Ron of Red Oak, Texas, and Linda Sue Jones and husband Gary of Artesia; grandchildren Neal Ballance and wife Chrissy, Tammy Ballance, Kristy Hamilton and husband Jimmy, and Cari Jowers and husband Phillip; step-grandson Lawrence Chapman; great-grandchildren Abigail and Jackson Jowers, Kolton and Kason Hamilton, and McKenzie Ballance; and her special friends Bob and Lucy Shoaf, and Mike and Kaye Costello.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dwight Ohlinger.

The family would like to give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice staff and especially caregivers Janeh and Lenya.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123; or St. Jude’s Children’s Research, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
