
The Artesia Fire Department is planning to hire two firefighters and candidates were put through a rigorous application process Tuesday. The department requires candidates to pass several tests designed to challenge their minds, body and spirit.
Candidates must pass an extensive written exam, a 100-foot Platform Ladder Climb (designed to test candidates’ fear of heights) and a timed Candidate Physical Abilities Test. Candidates who pass the first round of tests will then be scrutinized by an interview board.
