Members of the Artesia Police Department, Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police were given Safe Hands backpacks to be given to children during unsettling circumstances that lead to a child being removed from their home due to drugs, abuse or neglect. With the help of contributions from the community, the Artesia Drug and Crime Coalition was able to implement the Safe Hands program as a way to help law enforcement comfort and support children during traumatic situations.
