Local Marine, mother serves third tour in Iraq

After 10 years as a Marine, including three deployments in Iraq, Staff Sergeant Monica Gabaldon remains focused on her daughter and retirement.

“For me, doing this, I know my daughter will always have freedom and I’m making a difference; I’m trying to do my part,” said Gabaldon.

Gabaldon is a Spectrum Manager with the Second Marine Division G-6 (FWD) who believes her career is not just another job; it’s important.

Gabaldon grew up in Artesia, graduated from Artesia High School in 1998, and enlisted in the Marines Corps in June of 2001. Joining the military was something she always wanted to do.
