What began as an attempt to help a stranded woman on U.S. 285 turned into tragedy Monday morning south of Roswell.

New Mexico State Police Sgt. Lawrence Murray stopped to question the stranded woman, who told him her significant other was in a vehicle ahead of them. Christovol M.
