Students at Yeso Elementary School received a lesson in patriotism and showing respect for the American flag Friday during a program hosted by the Artesia Downtown Lions Club.

Thunderbird third-graders provided patriotic songs under the direction of Debra Leonard, which included “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Our Red, White and Blue,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag,” “America the Beautiful,” “Yankee Doodle’s Pony,” “Put Your Hand on Your Heart,” “American Heart,” and “Thankful for the USA.”

Raelynn Bean, pictured, spoke to the students about the flag, and she, other Lions Club members, and members of the Border Patrol Honor Guard passed out small flags and information flyers to the students following the conclusion of the program.

The Lions Club holds similar programs each February or March at a selected elementary school due to the fact students are out of school for the summer on Flag Day, June 14.
The Lions Club wishes to thank Leonard and Yeso Elementary for a great program.
