No jail time for man charged in shooting death of local businessman

An Artesia man will not serve any jail time for the November 2010 shooting death of 26-year-old Joshua Rolan, a local resident and businessman.

Andrew Dunn, 25, was given a deferred 18-month sentence on Monday by Judge Richard Brown of the Carlsbad Fifth Judicial District Court.

In the initial police report, Dunn admitted to repeatedly pointing a gun, with the safety on, at Rolan and firing. He indicated that the gun was loaded and unloaded at different times.

He told police they were handing the weapon back and forth, and the last time Dunn was handed the weapon, he pointed it at Rolan and fired. The firearm discharged, consequently killing Rolan. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
