Oralia Contreras

Services are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Oralia Deanda Contreras of Artesia.

Contreras, 82, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Lakeview Christian Home in Carlsbad.
Interment will follow the services at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Keith Vargas, Mark Vargas, John Sosa, Lee Roberts, Niko Valenzuela and Demitri Valenzuela.

Visitation will be held until 8 p.m. today at Terpening & Son Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace.

Oralia was born Oct. 1, 1934, in Ojinaga, Mexico, the daughter of Gilbert and Maria Nieves (Lopez) Deanda.

She was a homemaker and cook at La Fonda Restaurant, and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She loved taking care of her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed cooking and music.

Survivors include son Henry Vargas and wife Betty of Rio Rancho; daughters Anna Angulo of Hobbs and Refugia “Cookie” Angel of Artesia; brother Eusebio Deanda of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Rivas Vargas; her parents; son Martin Vargas Jr.; three sisters; and two brothers.
