Crime Stoppers of Eddy County is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a case of extreme cruelty to animals.

The incident occurred between June 6 and 7 at 353 Dark Canyon Road southwest of Carlsbad.

The victim informed Eddy County Sheriff’s Office deputies he had driven by the area in the early morning hours of June 6 and found his cattle to be fine. At approximately 1 p.m. June 7, he drove by and found one of his cows deceased.

Upon investigation, it was determined the animal had been shot in the stomach. The total estimated loss is approximately $2,000.

Information leading to a suspect may result in a reward of up to $1,000, and the Eddy County Cattle Growers Association is offering an additional $1,000 reward.
