TO THE EDITOR:

The administrators, counselors, social workers, and teachers from the Artesia Public Schools want the public to be aware of the Character Counts program we implement in all schools.

We believe learning in school goes beyond academics, and we recognize the fact that many of the problems in society are the result of a lack in good character. Therefore, we are making an effort to feature positive examples of good behavior for students. The six pillars of character are: RESPECT, CARING, TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, and CITIZENSHIP.

The Character Counts program includes activities in our schools and throughout the community. Educators teach about people who exemplify commendable character and make a worthy contribution to society. KSVP will feature one school each month on “Good Morning Artesia” for the purpose of explaining what is being done at their individual school relating to Character Counts. Guy Chevrolet sponsors the names of students who demonstrate Character Counts in the Artesia Daily Press. We would like to thank all individuals, organizations, and businesses who support Character Counts.

If individuals or organizations want more information or have suggestions, please contact John Ross Null at jrnull@bulldogs.org or 746-3585 or Tara Skinner at tskinner@bulldogs.org or 746-3711.
