Earlier this month, OutKast Softball represented New Mexico at the Southern National Tournament in Mansfield, Texas. The Artesia team has been together since 2017 and also includes some players from Carlsbad, Albuquerque, Lubbock and Amarillo, Texas.

OutKast is currently ranked second in the state of New Mexico and the 10-and-under team is coached by Gabriel Longoria, Uriah Lee, Brandon Davis, Sean Roberts and Bryan Klontz. Players include Kyliegh Davis, Kenzie Klontz, Jaylynn Nieto, Jazmyn Longoria, Danni Ruiz, Marlie Shetterly, Bristol Busby, Madison Lee, Kylie Lopez, Daniella Orquiz, Landry Roberts and Dominique Higuera.

“They are a small-town group of girls who want something big not only for themselves but for the next generation as well,” explained team mom Amber Klontz.

At the national tournament held on July 5-9, OutKast Softball competed against the best teams across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Klontz explained “these girls played all seven games on turf fields with a heat index of 110-115 degrees for the four-day tournament!” They played seven games and won two, finishing 13th out of 28 teams. MVP titles were given to Landry Roberts, Jazymn Longoria and Marlie Shetterly. And they didn’t go without having a little fun; the team won a celebratory costume contest during the opening ceremonies.

OutKast Softball would also like to thank the City of Artesia and everyone who supports their fundraising efforts!
