Phase IV of the 13th Street Reconstruction Project began Monday morning. The new phase closes 13th Street from the alley south of Ray Avenue to just north of Clayton Avenue and is projected to last five to six months. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area and follow traffic control and detour signs.

Parents of Zia Intermediate School students are asked to be mindful of minor changes due to the construction, as Phase IV blocks the Bullock Avenue intersection leading to Zia.

Parents may continue to drop off and pick up students on 11th Street as well as Bullock Avenue during construction, which is anticipated to last through the end of the school year. Parents choosing to use Bullock Avenue will be able to turn around in the school’s southwest parking lot by following the arrows.

The Artesia Public Schools’ busing hub will remain at Park Junior High School through the duration of the school year. The Zia bus lane will continue to be utilized as a regular bus stop.

Larry Combs, Zia principal, will provide directions for students who live west of 13th Street and walk to and from school.

For more information or to address concerns, contact Thad Phipps at 746-3585 or Combs at 746-2766.
