All are invited to a celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, Aug. 15, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Grace Smith.
Roby Zumwalt will officiate at the service. Visitation with the family will be held before and after.
Smith, 89, was born in 1926 in Hope, one of nine children born to Leman and Stella Glasscock. In 1947, she married Etheridge Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia until 2011, when she moved to Arizona to be near her daughter.
She had a beautiful, loving spirit. Her life was spent in service to others, her home a place of hospitality. She was a counselor like no other, listening without judgment, loving unconditionally. She had a delightful sense of humor, which she possessed until the end of her days.
She loved coffee, cats, crosswords, cokes, growing and sharing plants, and required a large car to accommodate all her friends going out to eat together.
Her family was her greatest joy, as she was theirs.
Smith was an active member of Hermosa Church of Christ and volunteered regularly at the Hermosa Church of Christ Outreach Center.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Bolton, of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter Laura Austin and sonin- law Richard Austin of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren Megan, Kendall and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Etheridge; her parents; six sisters; and one brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clinica Amistad, P.O. Box 27284, Tucson, AZ, 85726, or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at http://www.arte siafunerals.com.
