ARTESIA — A Johnny Cash tribute concert will be held Saturday, with proceeds to benefit a local woman battling cancer.
Scott Moreau will perform Cash’s timeless music in “An Intimate Portrait of Johnny Cash” at 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Roswell Community Little Theatre. Proceeds will be donated to Liana Swarengin, a local author and photographer who previously worked as a staff writer at the Daily Press.
Swarengin has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and is currently in Arizona seeking medical treatment not covered by health insurance. She and her husband, Lance, live in Artesia with their three children, Adeline, Oliver — who has special needs — and Dillon.
The public is encouraged to attend the show, where Moreau will deliver what critics around the country have dubbed a performance that isn’t to be missed.
“Scott Moreau steps into Cash’s boots for this one, and they are a perfect fit,” wrote Florida Theater On Stage. “No stranger to the stylings or the swagger or the distinctive bass baritone, Moreau has discovered a way to evoke the essence of the American icon without performing an all-out impersonation. He nails the dual personality described in Johnny’s own words: ‘Johnny is the nice one. Cash causes all the trouble.”
“[Moreau] unleashes a voice that possesses not just Cash’s deep, rumbling, sepulchral timbre but also an astonishing power,” lauded the Boston Globe. “This guy seems like he could knock down a brick wall just by singing at it.”
Tickets for Saturday’s performances are $35 for general admission, $45 for VIP admission. To purchase, visit www.roswelltheatre.com or call 575-513-8119.
Swarengin also has a children’s book available on Amazon for ages 8-14. “The Wonderfully Ordinary Adventure of Part and Bell” can be purchased at www.amazon.com/Wonderfully-Ordinary-Adventure-Part-Bell/dp/B0BPGFN5NW.
