From Feb. 8-24, the Artesia Public Library will be displaying the 18th Annual Eddy County Recycled Art Show, a project of Artesia Clean & Beautiful.

The Eddy County Recycled Art Show offers five age divisions: Children (pre-K to second grade), Youth (third grade to fifth grade), Intermediate (sixth to ninth grade), Teen (10th to 12th grade) and Adult.

All media that is created from at least 75% previously-used materials are welcome. According to Linda Stevens of Artesia Clean & Beautiful this can include “old toys, jewelry, machine parts, electronic parts, old lumber or home construction scraps, paper-mache from old newspapers, collages from old magazines or photos, pallets, musical instruments, wood crates, etc.” further explaining “think upcycle, repurpose or recycle.”

Artesia Clean & Beautiful is currently accepting entries and will continue accepting entries until Feb. 7, the day before the items will be put on display in the Artesia Public Library promenade. Each participant is allowed to submit up to three pieces of art, which can be listed for sale. All sales will be between the artist and the buyer. Monetary prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place in each age category.

Applications are available at both the Artesia Public Library and the Artesia Clean & Beautiful Office at 422 W. Main St., where items can be dropped off until Feb. 8. On or after Feb. 8 all items must be delivered directly to the display at the Artesia Public Library. The show will end at 5 p.m. Feb. 24, when all items must be picked up by the buyer or the artist.

The Eddy County Recycled Art show began in 2006 and was held at the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center before its remodel. The show then travelled to the Artesia Historical Museum Annex before its demolition before finding a home at the Artesia Public Library after becoming the first exhibit to be held at the newly constructed library in 2013.

The show will celebrate its 18th year this year just before the library celebrates its 10-year anniversary in March. For more information, direct all questions to Linda Stevens at 575-748-3192.
