Andy Marquez

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Anastacio “Andy” Marquez of Artesia.

Marquez, 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 16, 2017, surrounded by family, following a brave battle with cancer.

Leslie Hendrix will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Eric and Brandon Carmichael, Colton Marquez, Jerrold Chavarria, and Melissa and Troy Brown.

Anastacio, better known as “Andy” or “Tacho” by those who knew and loved him, was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Artesia to Antoclo and Luz (Montoya) Marquez. He grew up in Artesia and worked in the oilfield, finishing his career with Deans Electric.

On May 28, 1960, he married Maria Elisa Romero, and together, they began a 57-year adventure building their family.

Andy enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, horseback riding, and team roping. He loved to tinker and strove to instill in his children and grandchildren a strong work ethic. He was a New Mexico chile enthusiast and loved to sample and critique different dishes. You could find him engaged in a stimulating political conversation or just talking Cowboys; either way, he was a gentle soul loved by many.

Survivors include his wife, Elisa; children Patsy Galvan, Anastacio Marquez Jr., Michael Marquez and wife Jennie, Olivia Rolon and husband Frank, and Christina Marquez and husband David; brothers Sammy Marquez, Tony Marquez and Rudy Marquez; sister Virgie Velarde; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ike Marquez; sisters Cecelia Navarette and Lupe Romero; and infant son David Marquez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
