A Carlsbad teen was killed Saturday night in a single-vehicle wreck, the New Mexico State Police report.

NMSP officers responded around 9:30 p.m. Saturday to Hidalgo Road approximately one-half mile east of Standpipe Road in Carlsbad in reference to the accident.

Initial investigation revealed a pickup driven by Shane Kincaid, 16, of Carlsbad, was travelling westbound on Hidalgo when it struck a cow in the roadway. The impact caused the truck to exit the roadway and roll.

Kincaid, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
