Memorial services will be held at a later date for Janice Carpenter.

Janice was born Oct. 19, 1944, in Brownwood, Texas. Her father worked for Shell Oil Co., and during her childhood, the family lived in many oilfield towns in East New Mexico and West Texas.

On Jan. 21, 1967, Janice married C.A. Carpenter at First Baptist Church in Artesia. The couple moved to Hobbs in 1971 and had resided there since.

C.A. retired from Mid-America Pipeline, and Janice worked for Dr. Vemula until 1988. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and had many loving sisters.

Survivors include her husband, C.A. Carpenter; brothers Morris Horton of Brownwood and Blake Horton of Brimson, Minn.; sisters-in-law Day Hodge, Bonnie Derrick and Idel Bartlett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ernestine Horton, and her father, Russell Horton.
