A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jesus Alejandro “Alex” Vasquez of Dallas Avenue, Artesia.

Vasquez, 40, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Carlsbad Medical Center.

Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services. Cremation will take place following the funeral mass.

Visitation will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Alex was born Aug. 15, 1975, in El Paso, Texas, to Leodegario and Gloria (Perez) Vasquez.

On Nov. 23, 2002, he married Irene Villagran in El Paso, and the family relocated to Artesia three years ago, where he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and participated in the men’s group.

Alex worked in management all of his life, managing a tire store in El Paso for more than 10 years. He was currently managing the Landry Basket Laundromat in Carlsbad.

He loved to cook and barbecue, and was excellent on the smoker. He was a loving husband and father who was dedicated to his family and loved spending time with them. He was loved very much and will be missed immensely.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Vasquez, of the family home in Artesia; daughters Irene Alexandria Vasquez and Adelina Esperanza Vasquez, both of the family home; mother Gloria Vasquez of El Paso; brother Leo Vasquez Jr. and wife Maria of Artesia; sisters Mary Baker and husband Erik, and Lilly Flores and husband Alfonso, both of Houston, Texas, and Lourdes Flores and husband Lorenzo, and Lucy Medina and husband Saul, both of El Paso; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father.
