A judge has ruled that the 17-year-old charged in a mass shooting at a Clovis library is ineligible for an amenability hearing and will be sentenced as an adult.
Nathaniel Jouett’s defense attorney, Stephen Taylor, filed a motion asking the court to conduct a hearing and to see if Jouett was amenable to treatment. That could have allowed Jouett to enter treatment and be released at age 21.
But 9th Judicial District Attorney Andrea Reeb announced Monday that state District Court Judge James Hudson denied the hearing.
Jouett pleaded guilty in October to almost three dozen felony charges stemming from the Aug. 28, 2017, shooting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library that killed staff members Wanda Walters and Krissie Carter and injured four others.
