Police respond to auto burglary, shoplifting at two local businesses

Artesia Police Department officers responded to a pair of incidents Wednesday at businesses in the 1500 block of West Main Street.

Officers were dispatched just after 1 p.m. Wednesday to O’Reilly Auto Parts, 1501 W. Main St., in reference to a burglary.

According to Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD, the burglary was of the automobile variety, after suspects unknown entered an unlocked vehicle in the store’s parking lot.

Just before 5:30 p.m., police were dispatched to Hibbett Sports, 1505 W. Main St., in reference to larceny.

Smith says that incident was a shoplifting. Suspects took several unknown items from the sporting goods store and made their escape in a blue car.

Anyone with potential information regarding either of these incidents is asked to call the APD at 746-5000.
