Local children and representatives of a wide variety of area law enforcement and public safety agencies line up at a register inside Wal-Mart Saturday evening during the Artesia Police Department’s annual Shop with a Hero event. Participating kids were escorted amidst wailing sirens and flashing lights to the store, where they were paired off with officers, firefighters and agents with the APD, Artesia Fire Department, Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State Police, Eddy County volunteer fire departments, and many other agencies and given the opportunity to make their Christmas a little merrier by picking out gifts of their choice.
