Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Hermosa Church of Christ for Valana Irene Downs of Artesia.
Downs, 93, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at San Pedro Nursing Center.
Interment will follow the services at Woodbine Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her family members.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Irene was born March 8, 1923, in Atoka, Okla., to Joseph and Gussie Medina (Watson) Stone.
She was a member of Hermosa Church of Christ and had a passion for music and gardening.
She enjoyed getting out and entertaining with her guitar at the Senior Center. Her main focus in life throughout her working years was being a caregiver to those in need and spending time with her family.
Survivors include son Covan Downs of Artesia; daughters Barbara Collins of Canyon, Texas, and Lillian Henderson of Peyton, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Delores Scrimshire; 12 siblings; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
