Artesia High School rodeo team members, from left, junior Maddy Deerman, senior Blaise Milligan and junior Kaitlyn Harwell, hit the streets today to raise funds for their upcoming trip to the National High School Finals Rodeo July 17-23 in Gillette, Wyo. Milligan is this year’s NMHSRA champion bull rider, Deerman is the NMHSRA champion breakaway roper and team roper, and Harwell is the NMHSRA champion pole bender, girls’ cutter and All-Around Cowgirl. Harwell is also running for student vice president of the NMHSRA during the event. The weeklong rodeo requires the trio to travel with two horse trailers, four horses, and campers. They are seeking sponsorships from individuals and businesses in the City of Champions. Anyone interested in visiting with the teens to hear about their rodeo season and accomplishments, or sponsor the team members, is asked to contact their coach, Kerrie Pitts, at 703-0096.
