The Carlsbad Police Department, in cooperation with Crimestoppers of Eddy County, is requesting the public’s assistance in solving an aggravated battery in which a man suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

The crime occurred Jan. 25 at 3401 National Parks Highway, Space 3, in the Sweet Water Trailer Park. Officers with the CPD responded in reference to a male subject with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to Carlsbad Medical Center and later airlifted.

Detectives received information that two individuals identified as Sandra Perez and Ramon Horton Chavez Jr. had been living in the trailer just north of Space 3. Witnesses observed Perez and a male subject leaving the trailer park “in a hurry” just after the shots had been fired. They departed in a black Dodge Dart bearing New Mexico license plate number 292TGX.

Witnesses also observed another male subject run across National Parks Highway and walk through the field east of the trailer park. One witness said he observed two male subjects standing around a grey Mustang parked next to Space 3. The witness said he observed a male wearing a black hat, blue shirt, and blue jeans peek around the north end of the trailer at Space 3, then heard what he thought were fireworks.

Detective are investigating all leads and are also seeking the whereabouts of Perez and Chavez, who are wanted for questioning in relation to the incident.
