Christmas came a little early for Artesia’s Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program this week when the organization officially opened its lovely new offices on Main Street with a ribbon-cutting and open house reception.

CASA is a volunteer-driven program that protects the rights of children in foster care programs. The Carlsbad office opened in 1989, and the Artesia office opened in 1991. The new Artesia office at 605 W. Main St. has been completely remodeled and updated to meet their needs, thanks to the generosity of Joe and Jill Brininstool of Carlsbad.

The Brininstools purchased the building for Artesia’s CASA office earlier this year, and many businesses and individuals helped with the needed renovations with donated materials and labor. CASA’s Executive Director Libby Johnston sums up all the community support as “one blessing after another,” and it truly was.

Eddy County CASA Volunteer Coordinator Laura Netherlin staffs the new Artesia office and welcomes inquiries about volunteering as a Child Advocate or serving on CASA’s board.

Laura can be reached at 746-6077.

One room of the new space is already beginning to fill up with Christmas presents for children involved in the program. (Nancy Dunn – For the Daily Press)
