Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, at First United Methodist Church for Emogene Lee Joy of Artesia.
Joy, 91, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at her home.
Rev. Monty Leavell will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Schiel, Gary Beverage, Shane Hall, Jim Bob Burnett and Randy Worley. Honorary pallbearers are Vernon Asbill and Ronnie Null.
Visitation will be held until 8 p.m. today at Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Emogene was born April 9, 1925, in Birmingham, Ala., the daughter of Grady and Lee Esther (Snow) Youngblood.
On Dec. 21, 1945, she married Charles “Chuck” Joy in Dothan, Ala., and the couple came to Artesia in 1968 from Dallas, Texas.
Emogene was a secretary and member of First United Methodist Church. She was involved in many clubs and served as president of the PTA, secretary of the West District PTA and Artesia Country Club, Head Mother of the March of Dimes, and member of the Honor My Book Review Club. She enjoyed giving book reviews and also taught parliamentary procedure.
Survivors include her husband, Charles “Chuck” Joy, of the family home; and grandsons George Griffin III of Farmers Branch, Texas, and Grant Griffin and Gi Gi Miller, both of Austin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Thomas Youngblood; sister Edith Loretta Harkins; and daughter Carol Griffin.
