Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, March 24, at Terpening & Son Chapel for James B. “Smokey” Adamson of Wolfforth, Texas.

Adamson, 89, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas.

Galen Isaacs will officiate at the services, with interment to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Terpening & Son Mortuary.

Smokey was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Brownwood, Texas. Following graduation from high school, he worked for Texas New Mexico Pipeline prior to and for an additional 15 years after his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Jan. 11, 1951, he married Kathleen Pearson in Katy, Texas.

Smokey and Kathleen started Adamson Hot Oil Service in Loco Hills. They also enjoyed square dancing and travelling in their RV together for many years.

Smokey also took time for fishing and hunting. Being a handyman who could fix almost anything, he was always helping others with projects that needed fixing – “Smokey Do’s!” as soon of his friends called them. After living in Artesia for 45 years, the Adamsons moved to Wolfforth in 2001.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Kathleen; son James Dwight Adamson and wife Elaine of Artesia; daughter Scherry Scarborough and husband Tom of Wolfforth; grandchildren April Wheelis, Cody Mitt and Jennifer Scarborough, and Benjamin James Scarborough; eight great-grandchildren; and sister Alice Josephine Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brainard Huie Adamson and Alice Cravens; grandson Chad Adamson; and brother Robert Adamson.

Arrangements are under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed online at www.artesiafunerals.com.
